UKZN Application Process for New South African Undergraduate Applicants

All new South African applicants seeking admission to UKZN for the first semester (February) of an academic year, including Grade 12 students and undergraduate transfer applicants from other institutions, must submit their applications through the Central Applications Office (CAO).

Application for admission to full-time undergraduate and postgraduate studies must be made directly to UKZN at www.ukzn.ac.za

The UKZN has developed an online application system. The following applicants must apply online at www.ukzn.ac.za:

• Postgraduate and international applicants;
• Internal transfer students (students that are currently registered at UKZN and wish to transfer to another qual)
• Returning former UKZN undergraduate Applicants;

Manual applications

The following applications must be made manually directly to UKZN:

• Applicants for non-degree studies.
• New applicants applying for admission to Semester 2 (August).

Consult with UKZN on the availability of spaces in programs before submitting applications for Semester 2.

Please remember to upload the following documents (where applicable)

• Certified copy of your ID/passport.
• A certified copy of your National Senior/Matric Certificate, O/A Levels, or relevant school-leaving qualification/certificate is required.
• Proof from Universities South Africa (previously known as HESA), that you qualify for admission to degree studies at South Africa universities, if you are an international applicant. For more information, refer to the undergraduate prospectus.
• An applicant who has studied at any other tertiary institution must also present certified copies of degree certificates, full academic records, proof of financial clearance, and a certificate of conduct from that institution.
• Proof of English proficiency for International applicants from non-English speaking countries.
• The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) evaluates whether the previous qualification(s) were obtained at foreign universities (outside South Africa).
• A research proposal/proposed title of the dissertation/thesis if you are applying for a Masters Degree or PhD.
• Before applying online, please make sure that you have read the guidelines above.
• Please ensure you have the USAF/SAQA documents to be uploaded to complete your application.
• Please use the reference APPN (followed by your student number) when paying the application fee.
• Please allow the system 24 hrs to 48 hrs to clear your payment.
• South African first-time undergraduate applicants applying to UKZN must apply via CAO at www.cao.ac.za
