
Rio Tinto’s South African operation, Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) in KwaZulu-Natal, is now accepting applications for our 2025 Bursary Programme. We are looking for motivated students or those planning to study in these fields:
Study Areas:
- Engineering: Electrical, Mining, Chemical, Metallurgical, Marine
- Sciences: Actuarial, Computer, Data
- Finance: Accounting, Auditing, Banking
- Humanities: Sound Production, Journalism, Education
- Health Sciences: Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy
- Management Sciences: Supply Chain Management
- Law

Eligibility Criteria:
In order to meet the criteria for the Richards Bay Minerals Bursary programme, you need to have already been accepted into a recognised University institution that provides your programme of study. Added to that, you also need to meet the general requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Matric results (statement or certificate)
- A learner who achieved high marks in Grade 12
- Qualifying for financial assistance (in line with NSFAS guidelines)
- We strongly encourage students with disabilities to apply.
Required Application Documents:
- Attach a certified copy of your ID (not older than 3 months)
- Attach certified Matric certificate or statement of results (not older than 3 months)
- Attach proof of acceptance from a university
- Attach your proof of bank account
- Attach a certified ID copy of the parent/guardian (if signing on behalf of the applicant)
- Attach parent/guardian proof of income or payslip
- Attach a motivation letter explaining your chosen field of study
